Hello all!
It has been awhile since our last blog...so sorry. We have been very busy!
We have officially started our PBL...Problem Based Learning unit. Our unit is all about life cycles! We are learning about the life cycles of a plant, frog, and butterfly.
During our plant week, we used the four essentials; water, sun, air, and food to grow grass and wild flowers. They were slow to grow, but the students will get to take their plants home this Friday!
The next two weeks consisted of frogs! We learned about the parts of a frog, what frog needs to live; water, sun, air, and food, and we made frogs and read frog poems. We had fun with frogs!
This week, we began our butterfly life cycle! Yesterday we wrote down and drew pictures of everything we know about caterpillars and butterflies. Thanks to our order form www.Butterfly-Gifts.com, our caterpillars came in time for use to begin observing and we have already learned so much from them. The tiny caterpillars have already grown into healthy big caterpillars, we got to see them crawl us to hang on the lid and form the letter J during our J week, and now they are chysalis'!! We cannot wait for them to emerge as beautiful butterflies!
Last we year, we also used www.Butterfly-Gifts.com, and got wonderful monarch butterflies that we were able to see be released into the wild! The students are all very excited to see what will become of our little caterpillars.
When the caterpillars arrived one week after they were ordered from www.Butterfly-Gifts.com, they were very easy to transfer form the big cups into the little cups. The directions were very explicit and easy to follow. Our grade level ordered the class set so we could share the caterpillars among our grade level. The package prices were amazing!
I would encourage parents to order these caterpillars from www.Butterfly-Gifts.com for a simple summer project. The students are learning so much with this hands-on experience in the classroom.
We will post pictures soon!
